Lucretia Stoica Endowment Fund ESTABLISHED TO EXPAND THE JOB READINESS AND VOCATIONAL TRAINING SERVICES OF ISC
Established in May 2011 in recognition of the induction of Lucretia
Stoica, former Executive Director of the International Services Center
(formerly Nationalities Services Center) into the Cleveland
International Hall of Fame on May 11, 2011.
Even though a
refugee may initially secure a job with the assistance of the agency,
she/he may fall behind in keeping up the necessary speed of production.
A good example is sewing jobs. We have refugees with sewing skills,
however, they used older, sometimes obsolete equipment, in their home
countries. At the workplace they cannot keep pace with other workers
using modern technology and lose their jobs. With training provided by
the ISC using current equipment, refugees can become more competitive.
The names of
Lucretia Stoica and the Nationalities Services Center have been
synonymous with service to immigrants and refugees. She was engaged in a
full spectrum of community activities and provided an important bridge
of understanding between the “American” community and the “nationality”
communities part of northeast Ohio. Under her leadership the agency
accepted responsibilities for refugee resettlement from the Federal
Government. It is part of the U.S. Committee for Refugees and Immigrants
(USCRI). Recent Events:
